Wheel-Throwing at Whistle & Page | Murrumbateman

Date Night, One-Off Experiences & 5-Week Courses | Max 2 participants

Clay on your hands. A spinning wheel. Someone laughing (probably you). This is wheel-throwing, but not the serious, silent kind. This is the version where things wobble, collapse, surprise you—and occasionally turn into something you’re wildly proud of.

Held in my Murrumbateman studio between Canberra and Yass, these sessions are designed for beginners, couples, and anyone who wants to try something hands-on, a little messy, and genuinely fun. You don’t need experience. You don’t even need coordination. You just need to show up.

One-Off Wheel-Throwing Experience

$180 per person or $300 per couple | 2.5 hours

Two and a half hours. A wheel each. No idea what you’re doing (perfect). This is the “let’s try something different” version of pottery. Ideal for date night, friend dates, or a solo dip-your-toes-in moment.

You’ll be guided step-by-step through the basics—centring, pulling, shaping—while the clay does its best to keep you humble. Expect a mix of chaos, laughter, and the sweet satisfaction of getting something almost right.

Some pieces will wobble. Some won’t make it. One might surprise you. Whatever happens, it will be yours. Your favourite pieces are kept for glazing and kiln firing and returned a few weeks later—small, slightly wonky reminders of a very good time.

Light refreshments included. Aprons recommended. Expectations optional.

5-Week Wheel-Throwing Course

$725 per person | 5 weeks | 2 hours weekly

Same wheel. Different story. This is for when one session isn’t enough. Over five weeks, you move past the novelty and into something deeper. The chaos softens. Your hands start to recognise what to do. The clay still pushes back—but now you know how to respond.

With only two people in each course, there’s space to repeat, adjust, and actually learn what’s happening—not just get lucky once. You’ll build skills week by week: centring, pulling consistent forms, refining, trimming, and finishing pieces that begin to feel intentional. Not everything will work. That’s part of it. But what does will feel earned. Your final pieces are glazed and kiln-fired, then returned to you to use, gift, or admire with your morning coffee.

Whether you’re here for a playful night out or something more steady and skill-building, the wheel has a way of meeting you where you are.

Designed for: pottery date nights near Canberra, couples experiences in the Yass region, beginner wheel-throwing classes, creative workshops in Murrumbateman, and hands-on things to do just outside Canberra.
