The Harvest Grater | Pre-order

$38.00

There’s a certain magic in preparing food by hand — the scent of fresh ginger releasing its warmth, garlic grated finely into a dish destined to comfort. The Harvest Grater invites you into that moment: slow, intentional, and full of care.

The grater surface is left raw, sharp beneath your fingertips, making it a joy to use. Carved herb-stripper holes wait for sprigs of rosemary and thyme. Turn it over, and you can choose your glaze (please note it at checkout) — a soft, hand-painted finish that contrasts beautifully with the new, light, neutral clay body, a bright evolution from the red clay I used previously. Subtle, elegant, and made to suit your kitchen’s style.

A piece to leave on the bench, ready for use and admiration, season after season.

Handcrafted & One of a Kind

Each Starry Midnight Grater begins as a smooth slab of rich red clay, shaped and refined by hand. I carefully form the rim to frame delicately carved herb-stripper holes. The grater surface is etched using sgraffito, creating sharp, raised ridges for Each Harvest Grater is handmade in my Murrumbateman studio with equal parts intention, clay dust, and a dash of chaos (usually a dog underfoot or someone small asking what happens if you put a cherry pit in the microwave). Handbuilt, shaped, and dried slowly for two weeks, then glazed by hand — satin white or a glaze of your choosing — with natural clay edges for earthy charm.

No two are the same: subtle variations in shape, glaze, and clay reveal their handbuilt soul. Perfect for grating ginger, garlic, zesting citrus, or stripping fresh herbs straight from the garden.

A Slow & Intentional Process

  • Day 1–2: Clay is hand-rolled and shaped, grater teeth carved, and herb-stripper holes placed.

  • Days 3–16: The dish dries slowly for two full weeks, strengthening the clay and settling its form.

  • Days 17–18: Bisque firing transforms the piece into durable, ready-for-action ceramic.

  • Days 19–20: Glazing begins — hand-brushed layers of satin-white or your chosen colour, with the clay edges left exposed for tactile charm.

  • Days 21–22: Glaze firing brings the finish to life, then the dish is sanded smooth and given a gentle soapy bath, ready to grace your kitchen bench.
