How to care for your handmade pottery

Handcrafted & One of a Kind

Each spoon is individually handcrafted using slab-building and sculpting techniques. The matte white glaze on the spoon part contrasts beautifully with the raw clay handle, creating an earthy, elegant design. The roughness of the raw clay is gently balanced with the smoothness of the glazed spoon, creating a harmony in form and function.

A Slow & Intentional Process

Each piece goes through a thoughtful process of creation:

  • Day 1-2: Shaping the spoons, one using the slab-building method, the other hand-sculpted.

  • Day 3-4: Detailing the spoons, refining the shape, and smoothing the raw clay handle.

  • Day 5: Firing the spoons in the kiln to set the glaze.

  • Day 6: Sanding each spoon to perfection after firing, ensuring a smooth, polished finish on the handle and spoon.

  • Day 7: A warm soapy bath to give the spoons their final touch of cleanliness.

Measurements at a Glance

  • Slab-Built Spoon: 12cm x 3.5cm, 30g

  • Hand-Sculpted Spoon: 9.5cm x 3.5cm, 62g

Acknowledgement of Country

At Whistle & Page, we respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands, skies, and waters where we live, work, and create — in particular, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri Peoples of the Yass Valley, NSW. We honour their enduring connection to Country, and pay deep respect to Elders past and present, as well as emerging leaders carrying stories, knowledge, and culture forward. We recognise the unbroken strength, creativity, and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and the continuation of cultural, spiritual, and educational practices that have existed on this land for tens of thousands of years. Sovereignty was never ceded. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
