Open Pottery Studio: Creative Escape in Murrumbateman

  • Whistle & Page MURRUMBATEMAN Australia (map)

Ever wondered what goes on inside a working pottery studio? Here’s your chance to find out.

Step into the light-filled, muddy-hearted world of Whistle & Page—a cosy, creative studio nestled in the hills of Murrumbateman, just outside Canberra. Part shed, part TARDIS, this is where ceramic artist and children’s author Nawsheen Hyland makes her slow art pieces by hand and invites visitors to reconnect with creativity.

An Open Studio is exactly that—a chance to:

  • See where the clay is wedged, shaped, and fired

  • Chat with a full-time potter about ancient techniques, local inspiration, and the magic of daily making

  • Browse a curated selection of handmade pottery—perfect for meaningful, locally made gifts (yes, even Christmas shopping!)

  • Try a mini clay project—free, beginner-friendly, and a joyfully messy way to unwind

Mini Projects on Offer

These no-cost activities are suitable for all ages and are designed to reintroduce you to the tactile joy of clay. No firing or glazing is included, but you'll be guided through the process and given tips on how to decorate and finish your piece at home.

Choose from: A heart-shaped, pinched pot, up to three ornaments or a small textured plaque.
